The Georgia Food Industry Association (GFIA) Best Bagger Contest is a chance for baggers from across the state to compete for scholarships and an opportunity to represent Georgia at the National Grocers Association (NGA) Best Bagger Contest in Las Vegas.   The contest is one of the most exciting and anticipated events of the GFIA convention - be a part of the excitement!!  

This year’s contest will be held in Miramar Beach, Florida at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort Thursday, July 16, 2026. Competitors must be registered no later than June 15, 2026.

Eligibility:
  • Contestants must spend at least 40% of their time at work in the front-end, bagging customers’ groceries. 
  • A bagger’s primary duties must be classified as front-end staff and must have a non-managerial title, role, and set of responsibilities in order to be eligible to compete.
  • Contestant does NOT have to be a high school or college student. 
  • GFIA retail members can hold in-store contests to select their state contestant.

Judging Criteria:
  • Speed 
  • Proper Bag Building Technique 
  • Weight Distribution Between Bags  
  • Style, Attitude & Appearance

Georgia's Best Bagger Contest at GFIA Convention: 
Each participating retailer will receive eight (8) complimentary full registrations to the GFIA Convention. These registrations provide full access to all convention events. The distribution of complimentary registrations can be adjusted at the retailer's discretion.

Here’s our suggestion:
  • Best Bagger & Two Guests
  • Store Manager/ District Manager/ Contest Coordinator, etc.

Additional Registration Options:
  • Guest Registrations: $125 (Friday and Saturday dinners are not included)
  • Employee Registrations: $400 (Includes Friday and Saturday dinners)

Special Hotel Rates:
GFIA has arranged discounted hotel rooms for all convention attendees. You can conveniently reserve your room online.

Thanks to the Georgia Food Industry Education Foundation, winners will receive:
  • 1st place is awarded $1,750, a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada in February to compete in the National Best Bagger Competition, and $250 in spending money.
  • 2nd place receives $1,000.
  • 3rd place receives $500.
  • 4th place receives $250.
  • All other participants receive $100.
